Juan Nakpil
Father of Philippine Architecture
Juan Nakpil is the first ever National Artist for Architecture in the Philippines which is why he was given the title "Dean of Filipino Architects". He was a pioneering Filipino architect, teacher, and civic leader. He blended Art Deco, modernism, and traditional Filipino elements to shape the nation's pre- and post-war architectural identity. He advocated for a distinct national architectural style that reflected Filipino culture while embracing modernity.
Design Philosophy
He sought to create a "Philippine Architecture" that blended functionality with local traditions and culture.
