Leandro Locsin
Master of Concrete Expression
was a renowned Filipino architect and National Artist known as the "Poet of Concrete" and "Architect of Space" for his iconic, modernist designs. Born in Silay, Negros Occidental, he pioneered a distinct architectural style characterized by blending Western modernism with Eastern sensitivity and Filipino influences. His work is characterized by wide overhanging eaves, large roofs, massive concrete supports, and the use of natural light. He aimed to create a new modern Filipino architectural identity by combining contemporary techniques with native, airy design principles.
Design Philosophy
Locsin explored the concept of “floating volume,” creating structures that appear light despite using heavy materials like concrete.
